It’s the final week of the trade period, and our experts Riley Beveridge and Jordan Witte have had their ears to the ground, hearing all the latest rumours and whispers from the busiest time in the footballing calendar. Stay tuned over the next month as they give you the most comprehensive day-by-day rundown of who’s heading where.
As reported on From the Sideline yesterday, ruckman Tom Hickey has traded Gold Coast for St Kilda. Hickey joined the Saints along with picks 26 and 47 in exchange for the Saints’ picks 13, 37 and 57.
The Bulldogs have pulled off a virtual steal, acquiring West Coast youngster Koby Stevens in exchange for pick 44. The 21-year-old midfielder was held in high regard by the Eagles, however they allowed him to leave the club to go back to his hometown of Melbourne.
Brisbane is close to securing the services of Melbourne ruckman Stefan Martin. The 25-year-old is keen to leave the Dees to seek more first team opportunities, and the two clubs are reportedly set to agree on pick 33 as the exchange tomorrow.
The drawn out trade saga of Adelaide forward Kurt Tippett could be coming to a disastrous ending. Adelaide today went to the AFL to confirm Tippett had a clause in his contract that would allow him to move to a club of his choice for a pre-arranged draft pick. The AFL has since labeled this ‘draft tampering’ and are currently investigating the issue. Melbourne radio station SEN has reported Tippett could be deregistered from AFL if found guilty, while his manager could face a similar penalty. Meanwhile Adelaide could be fined up to $800k and could be stripped of their first draft pick, which is pick 20.
St Kilda defender Jamie Cripps could be forced to nominate for the draft if the Saints can’t work out a deal with West Coast by the Friday deadline. Cripps is wanting a move back to his home of Western Australia, however with the Saints and the Eagles at loggerheads over a deal for Mitch Brown, the two parties are unlikely to agree on a deal for Cripps.
