AFL TRADES: DAY 13

Our experts Riley Beveridge and Jordan Witte have had their ears to the ground, hearing all the latest rumours and whispers from the busiest time in the footballing calendar. Stay tuned over the next month as they give you the most comprehensive day-by-day rundown of who’s heading where.

DONE DEALS

Maligned forward Chris Dawes has left Collingwood to join Melbourne in the only confirmed trade so far this week. Dawes, along with pick 58, has moved to the Dees in exchange for picks 20 and 45. The key position player booted just 16 goals in a poor 2012 season, however is reportedly set to be paid $500k a season at Melbourne.

ALMOST THERE

ImageMelbourne could continue to bolster their tall stocks, with coach Mark Neeld confirming their interest in North Melbourne’s Cam Pedersen and Essendon’s Scott Gumbleton. Although Neeld said the Dees were in constant contact with their management, he admitted they were unlikely to finalise trades for both players. From the Sideline understands that Pedersen is the likely option for Melbourne, with Gumbleton set to reject interest from the Demons and Fremantle to remain at Windy Hill.

WHISPERS

North Melbourne is set to snare Port Adelaide halfback Ben Jacobs. The 20-year-old has indicated his desire to move back to Victoria this October, with the Kangaroos his preferred destination. From the Sideline believes that North small forward Matt Campbell could be used as trade bait to acquire Jacobs. If Port Adelaide are against that proposal, North could on-trade pick 36, which they are set to gain from trading Hamish McIntosh to Geelong, for Jacobs.

Following the departure of Chris Dawes, Collingwood has stated that they are ‘finished’ tinkering with their list this October. This statement all but rules out a highly speculated move for Hawthorn defender Clinton Young. The premiership player now looks set to remain at Hawthorn, although Port Adelaide has signaled a slight interest.
