The weekend stifled any impending trades, with no official moves completed on Day 11 of the trade and free agency period.
After days of toing and froing, North Melbourne ruckman Hamish McIntosh is finally set to join Geelong. The 28-year-old has been chased by the Cats throughout the trade period, with the two clubs finally agreeing on a deal. It is believed Geelong are set to offer North Melbourne pick 36 for the disgruntled ruckman, as reported on From the Sideline a week ago.
Adelaide could be prepared to dump forward Kurt Tippett in the pre-season draft if Sydney does not come up with a suitable trade. It is believed all talks between the two clubs have stalled, with Sydney not willing to part with any of its premiership players. The Crows are reportedly asking for a top 10 draft pick for Tippett, however Sydney’s first pick in the draft is pick 22. Meanwhile Gold Coast has ruled themselves out of trading for Tippett, however would have first dibs on the 24-year-old if he gets sent to the pre-season draft.
As reported last week, Port Adelaide defender Ben Jacobs is following through with a request to be traded back home to Victoria. At the moment three clubs are in the hunt for the 20-year-old, with North Melbourne leading the chase ahead of Essendon and St Kilda. It is understood that Jacobs is set to announce North Melbourne as his preferred home. If that is the case, the Kangaroos could give up their newly acquired pick 36 for Jacobs.
The Bulldogs are set to go all out in the hunt for Essendon forward Scott Gumbleton. With the Dees likely to beat the Dogs for Chris Dawes, they could turn all of their attentions to acquiring the injury-prone Gumbleton. Fremantle is the other club who has been in contact with Gumbleton, while Essendon remain a chance of retaining their player.
GWS ruckman Jonathan Giles has put an end to speculation linking him to Adelaide by signing a new three-year deal at the Giants. It was believed the mature age recruit was headed to the Crows after contract negotiations stalled, however an improved offer saw Giles pen the new deal.
